God Given Health Code [Part 1]

This weeks topic may be a little hard for some people to choke on. It’s the thing that most people relate toward Mormons [for the most part, is generally true]: the Word of Wisdom.
The word of Wisdom is a health code that most Latter-Day Saints follow, but before diving into the mechanics of this modern revelation [next week], here's some history.

The Codes of Health
We are God’s children. It’s a fact that is often repeated. Why wouldn’t a good father want his kids to be fit and strong?
Since Moses [and no doubtfully before] God has initiated certain diet codes and practices for his people.
For example:

-Unclean animals described under the law of Moses [such as pigs] shouldn’t be consumed
-People with certain diseases [like leprosy] were not allowed in the camp until fully healed
-Upon a person’s death, ALL their property was destroyed.
-A person was required to wash their hands before eating.

The list goes on. [One can read about these in the books of Moses]
While long and drawn out, these commandments were not meant to punish his people.
Consider the following short film [if time is not permitted, then just skip to below or read the story in Danial 1 and Danial 2]

After Jerusalem [the capital for the ancient Jewish nation] was destroyed, many of the people were taken into Babylon.
Babylon was a great empire. Babylon was a very well versed empire. Even at this time, did Babylon control just about everything.
In an attempt to integrate their captives into their culture, the Babylonians taught the Jewish children customs, sciences, and even the way of living. The Babylonian way of living, however, did not coincide with Jewish dietary laws.
Danial and some of his friends [who were captive Jews] asked not to eat the same type's of meat as the others did. They made a compromise with their Babylonian teacher that if they would just compare their diet with the others over a matter of days, then their teacher can pass judgment. He agreed, and he noticed that Danial and his friends were stronger, clearer of mind, and more fair then their counterparts.
In addition with health, there was something far more important.

The Revelation of Peter
Peter [a follower of Christ] received a vision of a large sheet that let loose all kinds of animals upon the earth.
He was commanded to eat, but Peter [raised Jewish] was hesitant, as most of the animals were unclean according to the law of Moses.
However, times changed, and by changing this health code showed Peter how God, In a literal sense, gave every willing human to experience the gospel.

The Law Continues....
Although it meant of the diet code's of Moses, it did not mean the end of living healthy lifestyles.
In the epistle to the Corinthian disciples, they were told to treat their own bodies as temples.
This gives man the charge to be weary of certain fations [tattoos, piercings ect.] and diets that could lead to physical and even spiritual degeneration.
By simple commandment, man was edified both physically and spiritually.

Next week, this topic will be further explained as why the law was different then, and what the law is now concerning God's given Health Codes.

Our Divine Stewardship

Earth Day is around the corner.
To honer the day we remember our planet, let's go back to its creation, and learn why it was created in the first place.

Quick Prelude...
When we lived with God, our Heavenly Father, we agreed to be tested and receive bodies to grow in. However, to allow man to choose freely their own way, we needed a place [besides heaven] to undertake our mortal proceedings.
So where would be the best place? That's where Earth comes in.

The Creation of Earth
Jesus Christ [under the direction of God] made and created the world in Six “Days”. The process can be followed in Genesis or the book of Moses found in the Pearl of Great Price.
Take careful notice how the process moves one, building basic conponents of life one at a time.

Day 1: Earth took form out of unorganized matter. After it was organized, light was called forth and appeared, creating the cycles we know as day and night. In God's reckoning, this was the first day. The foundation is set for the next work....

Day 2: The sky was organized to divide the waters. This laid foundation for future components....

Day 3: The land is formed from the waters, adding solid ground. Then plants are formed in their varieties to supply the soon coming animals.

Day 4: More organization straightening the seasons and time elapses take place on this day. The sun was organized to rule the day, and the moon and stars were to rule the night. The seasons provided plants their own cycles in life, and provide the variety in land in which we know now.

Day 5: The first animals are organized and created in the oceans, and fowl [birds] dominate the sky.

Day 6: Land creatures ranging from beast to insects inhabit the landmasses in all their variety.

Throughout both accounts, God is said to see his creations as good [in our case, spectacular].
But something big was missing.
The world, flourishing with variety, beauty and great wonders was missing the people for which it was designed.
So Man was created in God's image: our Parents Adam and Eve.
To those who know the story, it seems like Adam is considered the cause of both suffering of the earth and of man.
But if Adam didn’t do what he did, how could we appreciate this world? in the words of a Book of Mormon prophet, “Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.”
Lets enjoy the world around us, and remember why it stands.
Happy Earth Day “ )

Making the Steps

Today's Post will be about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The reason several past post were driven on the restoration of the Gospel [and praying to know if it is true] is to lay foundation for what action needs to be done.
It is a five step process, each building upon each other as a ladder into the pathway into heaven.

Step 1: “have a little faith...”
We've heard the word faith over...and over... and over....
So what's it mean?
In the gospel, faith is having trust. True faith/trust leads to action.
It doesn't mean you understand everything off bat, nor does it mean you'll understand everything later [that comes after].
For example, having faith is like trusting numbers in math are true, even if you don't fully understand equations or functions. However, the results of such equations show true answers when applied correctly. Walking in faith is the first step that leads you to better things.

Step 2: Repent and Change Lanes...
The next is repentance. ALL of us need to do this, as we all in some way fall short in doing what is right. The process, however, is not as painful as some people claim it is [ex: some monks/people overdo the process and beat himself in order to gain repentance]
The process is a ABCD process:

Acknowledge the sin: The difference between a sin and a transgression is that a sin is knowing you did something wrong [by the way, no man can be saved in ignorance]. This is the first step in Repenting

Be sorry: Some people acknowledge the sin, but they don't think about its consequences nor it's adverse effects. Being sorry, however, does not mean you should mope; being sorry simply is knowing that you need to make a necessary change in your behavior to be a better person.

Confess/Call for help: For some, this sounds like the most painful step. As humans, we generally believe we can fix things ourselves. In reality, our complete self sufficiency will not come in this life, so we need the help of our Father in Heaven by calling him in prayer for help. In part of confessing, restitution is necessary to correct the wrong done. In other cases, emotional support from specialist and friends are necessary to overcome guilt and addiction. God helps man in many ways, even through other human beings who want to help [please don't deny them].

Drop the sin: Sometimes the biggest person we need to forgive is ourselves. When the savior suffered, He VOLENTEERED to go through the lasting pain of our consequences so that man wouldn't have to if they repented. Memory should serve to remind and warn of the consequences, NOT to revisit/lengthen the pain. The sin should be dropped and never repeated under circumstances of choice. Repentance will bring about a guilt free life and help you move on to better things.

Step 3: Purify yourself by Covenants [ex: baptism]
When we fix the wrong, we go ahead and begin taking covenants such as Baptism. Such covenants are required of all people; even the savior was baptized to fulfill all righteousness.
Baptism is a symbolic ceremony in which a person is “buried” in water [ideally not for long] and brought back up clean, and with a new resolve to be better. Once a person is baptized, they no longer need to perform this ordinance [ritual] in the exact same way again [there are exceptions, but they are just that].
However, renewing these commitments are required, as newly baptized and lifelong members participate in a ritual [known as the sacrament [communion]] during a church meeting to remember what promises they made in baptism.

Step 4: Align and Stay “in tune” with the Holy Ghost
Baptism/ making commitments is only beginning. After baptism, there is an ordinance where the spirit of the Holy Ghost can stay with you. The Holy Ghost acts through conscious, and can [before baptism] come warn and confirm truths time to time. However, after being clean from baptism can one receive the Holy Ghost as a constant companion to forever warn, protect and confirm as long as worthiness of spiritual things maintained.

Step 5: Repeat
Mistakes are a part of life, but it needs not keep us from moving forward. One cannot reach the end of the Journey until they have reached the end of the journey, and one can only achieve that if repetition is exercised. For example, human's learn how to crawl, then walk, then crawl again if necessary. The same is with this gospel; no substitute may be used.
Faith must increase by continual study and action of God's holy word.
Repentance must always restore order and peace and re-stoked with a determination to do better.
Baptism must be renewed by partaking the sacrament.
The companionship of the Holy Ghost must be maintained on the principles of righteousness.
It continues, even when one makes further covenants in God's holy temple to seal their loved one's together, and until that day when we all look into God's face to give him an accounting of all of our time and effort.
May we follow His example day by day, is my hope in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Tribute: Final Hours, First Step

As Easter is fast approaching, several videos that the church had set out will be on display for those who haven’t had the pleasure.

Quick Note from the Admin
While thinking about how I was going to to this post, I thought about adding some commentary.
But in the quietness of each video, I realized that I don't have the right to add my usual “noise”.
In light of this, I urge that this post be seen either alone with family to allow the spirit to speak unrestrained of the final hours of the Atonement.
Starting with His triumphal entry into Jerusalem:

The New Eternal Day [Admin]

In a world of ups and downs, we feel like we are left to our own devises and the words of experts and others to discern truth.
This was NOT how God meant it to be.
Everything from the patterns of prophets, Christ’s atonement, further light and knowledge we receive from continued revelation are NOT supposed to be words that we take as true because it was said from our parents, our friends, or some weirdo posting it on his blog [Yes, I’m talking about me “ ) ]
God gives us the choice to work through life through our own devices, but the purpose of life is to acknowledge that we need His help. God is the source of all knowledge [he made it all, after all], and when we realize that we do not know everything, we ultimately take the word of God.
Back in 2005, Gordon B. Hinckley [the prophet at the time] gave everyone a challenge to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year.
At first I was reluctant; I was spending my fruitless scripture reading in some other place in the scriptures. I took my parents word that I needed to read the scriptures every night.
Please don’t get me wrong: to be a good influence is an excellent way to help your sons/daughters, brothers/sisters, husbands/wives, and friends/strangers to begin investigating and explore on their own.
However, there is a time for all men to chose whether or not to explore. I decided that I needed to read the Book of Mormon.
My reading became different. The words became alive: I envisioned myself in the same room with the prophets who wrote about it. I found how, even though I did not understand everything, ever verse applied to me.
One night [yes, in December], I finished reading the promise that the last prophet had given, that read:

“…And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true;
and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart,
with real intent,
having faith in Christ,
he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things”

I’ve read that many times before, but in the quietness of my room, I tried it out for the first time.
The answer I received was not a heavenly visitation [like what Joseph Smith or other prophets had received]. I've had a lot of things on my mind prior and while reading.
After I concluded my prayer, my mind had become clear.
That night after I retired to bed, the “cleansing” of the mind and peace I felt was a personalized answer that God had indeed restored His truth again on the Earth.
I've learned more since then but my original confirmation is still as simple as this:
I know God exist
I know God loves us
I know that God loves us enough that He gave us Mercy while maintaining justice
I know that God calls prophets [like Adam, Noah, Moses, Joseph Smith and Tomas S. Monson] to further our knowledge in Truth, and will speak tomorrow to the world.
I know that if we read the scriptures, listen to the prophet's advice, follow the commandments and enter through ordinances and Covenants,

not only can we see Him again, but our Lives will improve, our families can be together forever, and we become more at ease, knowing that we are the fundamental piece in part of God's grand plan.

I know these things are true. And I say it in the Name of Jesus Christ, AMEN!
